FPIA appoints CEO

Tuesday, October 17th 2000, 2:08PM
The Financial Planners and Insurance Advisers Association (FPIA) has appointed Auckland-based planner Phillip Matthews as its first chief executive.

Matthews, who has his own planning business, is currently the FPIA senior vice president. He will take up his new post in Wellington in early November.

FPIA president Andrew Charles said he was delighted that Matthews had accepted the post of ceo. "Phillip's knowledge at board level, as well as a practising member, will be invaluable to implementing our strategic plan that was developed earlier this year. I am confident that this appointment will propel the Association to the levels that we are aiming for," he says.

Matthews has a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from Auckland University and is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP). After working in the New Zealand finance industry in the early 1980's he spent four years in London working in funds management and stock broking. On returning to New Zealand Mr Matthews was research manager for IPD and then client adviser. He currently runs his own financial planning practice in Auckland.

Matthews was on the board of the Association of Investment Advisers and Financial Planners (IAFP) for three years, the last as deputy chairman.

With the formation of the FPIA in 1999 Matthews was appointed vice president and moved up to the senior vice president for 2000/01.
