AMP ropes in Australian

Wednesday, October 10th 2001, 1:06PM
AMP Henderson has seconded John Whiteman from its Australian Equities Capital group to its help run its New Zealand equities portfolio.
This temporary appointment has been made while it recruits someone to replace Stephen Walker and Craig Brown.
Whiteman will work with AMPH's existing team of Nat Vallabh, Nigel Croke and Stan Wilson.
Whiteman has worked at AMP for 11 years, all of which has been in Australian equities. He has analysed nearly every industrials sector in the market, including media, banks, transport, gaming, retail and food. He headed up the small companies team for three years, prior to that team merging with the current capital team.

He developed the alpha data base for company valuation analysis in 1996. He also developed the "Great Stocks" qualitative ranking system in 2000.
"We have taken the opportunity to gain greater leverage off our Australian team," AMPH chief investment officer Chris Wozniak says. "It is unique to have the opportunity to get one of the senior members of the Australian equity team to come and look at the world through the eyes of a New Zealand investor."
"John's secondment highlights that the depth of our team (we still have three experienced team members in place managing our NZ equity portfolios) is complemented by our ability to get back-up resource from our Australian operation (at short notice)."
"We are undertaking a recruitment search aimed at appointing the highest calibre candidate available to our New Zealand equity team.
