New approach to trustee services

As anyone who wants to protect their assets knows, a trust is a sensible and practical option and can be central to an asset protection plan. However, it can be a daunting process deciding who should be the trustees and what ongoing professional assistance may be needed to ensure that it does not become a future nightmare.

Options for trustees
Through its new Flexi Trust Services, Guardian Trust aims to make the process simpler so that clients can tailor both their trust and its on going administration to suit their needs and particular circumstances. This new approach aims to give clients real options and choices when establishing their trusts and as their circumstances change over time.

"While we are making it easier for people to set up and run their trusts the way they want, we are also making sure they comply with all their duties and responsibilities and have the right help when they need it. It's a good balance of professional and personal involvement," says Tony Kinzett, National Sales & Marketing Manager, Guardian Trust

Flexibility
Guardian Trust recognises that not everyone's requirements are the same. The first new option they offer is the Flexi Trust Service. Developed as a "pick and mix" service offering trustees a choice of support services, this range includes all the initial steps necessary to establish the trust and settle assets as well as the gifting, trustees administrative duties, taxation, accounting and investment services.

Because Flexi Trust services are available individually, clients can choose to take care of any aspects of their trust management with which they feel confident and capable, and outsource other tasks to Guardian Trust.

For clients who want more regular assistance with their trust management, but still want to act as trustees, Guardian Trust offers the option of their new Trust Monitoring Service. This is a cost effective package of all trustee services that need to be carried out regularly and helps ensure that the trust is professionally and expertly managed, whilst overall control of the trust remains in the hands of the private trustees.

In addition, Guardian Trust continues to offer their Full Trustee Service where they will take up appointment as trustee, either on their own or together with another nominated person.

Value for money
The flexibility of these options mean people can establish the level of service that best suits their unique needs, and they only pay for the services they choose. The ability to select the services in this way provides private trustees with real value.

"All too often we are seeing trusts that have been established with little or no on-going professional support. Armed with no more than general advice contained in popular books or incomprehensible pages of legal notes, many clients are confused about what they should be doing. In some cases the results are disastrous, with trustees potentially facing large tax bills, penalties and professional fees" says Mr Kinzett.
