The new company, Legacy Life opened on October 1 and Knox says he and Rupapera are equal partners, starting from scratch with an aim to build a vibrant and robust distribution business. Sir David Levene is the chairman and a shareholder in the company.

Legacy Life has distribution agreements with three companies, Sovereign, Asteron and OnePath and Knox says this is because they have the right range of products for most of the customers they anticipate going to.

He says at this point and time Legacy Life is a conventional broker that has quite a significant capability in the direct space.

"We're very well versed in how to use direct tools and mechanisms to identify customers and obtain appointments or sell them product."

Knox says he and Rupatera are selling advice at the moment to their wide network and in the New Year they will start with some direct programmes to generate leads for advice.

"We're looking to build a large distribution business that leverages direct but which is also able to provide a full suite of products regardless of where the customers are in their life stage and of where they wish to conduct the sale process - whether it be over the phone, online or in their homes face to face."

Knox says the desire to be self-employed initiated the move as both he and Rupatera wanted to be their own boss, embracing all the challenges and benefits that come with it.

"We've had a lot of challenges so far in starting up Legacy Life and long hours, but it's a lot of fun because everything you achieve is as a result of your own hard work."

He says they had both achieved what they wanted to at AA Life, turning around and growing business, leaving the company in a healthy and profitable state.

Always good to see some new entrants with some skills and a different approach.

These guys seem to have a strong track record and goods skills. Not being sycophantic but I have dealt with them and was impressed.

These people know very less about Life Insurance market. Selling insurance in AA Life and starting your own company with agencies with OnePath, Sovereign and Asteron is totally different.
