Arrest follows rent stand-off

A woman hung a noose around her neck and cut herself with a knife during a more than three-hour roof-top standoff with police in suburban New Plymouth yesterday.

The drama began shortly after noon yesterday when court bailiffs and a representative from rental management agency, Energy City Realty, arrived at the woman's St Aubyn St house intending to evict her, Senior Sergeant Selwyn Wansbrough said.

"They had court orders to take possession of the property. The order allows them to take to the property by force if necessary, but she was denying them access."
