Sales of coastal land and South Island high country property to foreigners will be the focus of a Government review of the Overseas Investment Act.

Public concern has been growing about foreigners buying coastal properties, particularly on the northeast coast of the North Island, and evidence that high overseas purchase prices are feeding into the property boom and inflation.
There is also concern that foreign landowners are reducing public access to beaches and the high country.
