Q. I live in an older style two-flat development which is the subject of a cross-lease.
Recently the owners of the other unit approached me and said they wanted to make some alterations to their unit, namely adding on another floor and a garage.
I am concerned that these alterations will block light from my flat and interfere with my privacy.

ully understand how cross-leases work but what are my rights as to the proposed alterations and can I stop the alterations going ahead?
If I don't give my consent I am worried that they will proceed with the alterations anyway.
A. Cross-lease titles are less common now than they used to be but there are still a large number of properties on this form of title.
Under a cross-lease title a proprietor of a two-flat development, such as yourself, would have: 1. An undivided half-share in the land as tenant in common in equal shares with the owner of the other flat.
