Waikato councils are not taking any stand at this stage against a boron-treated timber used in the construction industry - even though it is being rejected in Auckland.

It also emerged today that the treated timber is not widely used in the Waikato.
Auckland City Council says it will reject building consents for projects using the boron-sprayed T1.2 timber even though the Building and Housing Department says it cannot take that step.
The treatment, also known as "Agent Orange", is a substitute for conventional h1.2 boron-based treatments.
The T1.2 timber is sprayed with boron. H1.2 timber is soaked in it.
There are fears the spray treatment could wash off in the rain, but the firm which makes boron preservative, Osmose NZ, stands behind its product.
