The proposal is to convert a two-storey commercial building on the corner of Kolmar Rd and Eric Baker Place, just behind Great South Rd.

It has been put forward by Kolmar Lodge Trust, which runs two boarding houses in Otahuhu.

Rooms would be rented for $120 to $140 a week. The average length of stay is expected to be three to six months.

The proposal submitted to Manukau City Council says the boarding house aims to accommodate professionals attending the Manukau Institute of Technology or people who need to be close to Middlemore Hospital.
