Two Rotorua suburbs are in the top five

Currently, established investors with a substantial portfolio are looking to pounce on good deals in a flattening market.

At the same time, newer investors may find themselves targeting the sub-$300,000 bracket in order to jump-start or grow their portfolio.

So where is it best for such investors to look?

In the November issue of NZ Property Investor magazine, our journalist takes a look at affordable hotspots that have had exceptional growth in the past year and discovers future growth potential.

Our data, provided by Corelogic, shows the top 30 suburbs (or towns) under $300,000 and exposes affordable hotspots that have experienced the greatest growth over the past year.

The top 30 under $300,000 have been weeded out by using the median value of all properties in each suburb and town with at least 500 residential properties, to filter the suburbs of interest.

Our journalist has then been ranked them according to their annual growth to make up the list.

But buyer beware – read our commentary on these places to gauge the benefits and risks of each spot as well as the potential for further growth.

The top five suburbs are:

1. Kawerau (Kawerau District)
2. Huntly (Waikato District)
3. Edgecumbe (Whakatane District)
4. Western Heights (Rotorua District)
5. Mangakakahi (Rotorua District)
