With cancer responsible for more than half of trauma claims at Asteron Life this highlights the additional value that customers may get from adding a Continuous Trauma benefit to their existing Trauma Recovery Cover.

Asteron Life executive manager Claire Sutton says the Trauma Recovery Cover is becoming an increasingly relevant and useful option for Kiwi’s.

“There is value in customers having cover in place for future trauma events with cancer the leading cause of Asteron trauma claims,

What this means for customers with an existing Continuous Trauma Cover benefit is that three years after they claim, a new instance of the same (or related) medical event will be covered again, provided it’s not a continuation or recurrence or spread of the original condition.”

She says we all know someone impacted by cancer, but the chance that an unrelated medical event occurs further down the line like a heart attack or a stroke is also a high probability and with the peace of mind having the additional Continuous Trauma Cover benefit is invaluable.

Asteron’s Life data shows that in 2021 the average age for trauma claims was 55 years of age and the youngest to be paid a claim under an Asteron Life trauma benefit was 25 years old. This again highlights that age does not discriminate against trauma events in a person’s lifetime and reinforces the fact having that additional cover for future protection.

Sutton says one of the product’s strong features is that it works simply with standard trauma products, while giving eligible customers Continuous Trauma cover even immediately after a claim.
