Don Brash has been reappointed for another five-year term as governor of the Reserve Bank. His current contract doesn't expire until August 31, 1998, so his reappointment effectively leaves him in the job until 2003.
Treasurer Winston Peters, who made the appointment, said although Dr Brash's contract still has nearly a year to run it was important to signal the reappointment well in advance to avoid any uncertainty in the markets.
Dr Brash's reappointment won the approval of the non-executive members of the bank's board.
