Simple, convenient, cost-effective health insurance which provides security for you and your family.

Your Health Insurance Needs

New Zealand's public health system is well equipped to deal with emergencies, and most of us are confident that if urgent care is required, then a public hospital will do the job.

Non-urgent cases, however, are another matter. We have all heard horror stories about the waiting lists which exist for various types of elective surgery.

Your Health Insurance Solution
Bank of New Zealand Premier Health Care insurance provides you with the security to stop worrying about these issues.

The policy is called 'Premier Health Care' because it takes care of major medical costs - surgery and similarly serious treatment. Although Premier Health Care does not cover the small, day-to-day costs like prescriptions and doctors' visits, these are not usually the expenses which worry us and insuring them usually turns out to be more expensive than it is worth.

Instead, Premier Health Care offers cost-effective security. By holding this policy you protect yourself and your family against the expense of a serious medical problem, at the same time ensuring that you will not have to join long waiting lists for non-urgent surgery.

Because if the worst does happen, the last thing you need to worry about is expense and delay.

What's Covered
Premier Health Care covers you for the cost of surgery in a private hospital, which includes:

• Surgeons' and anaesthetists' fees

• Pre- and post-operative specialists' fees within 6 months of the date of surgery

• Surgically implanted prostheses

• Diagnostic procedures leading to surgery in a Private Hospital

• Ancillary treatment charges incurred while in hospital

• Oral surgery

• Physiotherapy following surgery

You are also covered for the cost of medical treatment in a Private Hospital for:

• Angiography, Angioplasty and Lithotripsy procedures

• Other treatment resulting in admission to hospital limited to $5,000 (special conditions apply)

• CT and MRI scans up to $2,000

(The above list is a summary only. For full details please refer to the Premier Health Care Policy Document, which may be obtained from any Bank of New Zealand branch.)

What's Not Covered
• Any treatment received within 3 months of the commencement date of the policy (except if you cancelled your existing cover to take out Premier Health Care and the treatment is covered by Premier Health Care and would also have been covered by your previous policy)

• Pre-existing conditions unless accepted by the Insurer (an extra premium may apply)

• Accident costs covered by the Accident Rehabilitation and Compensation Insurance Corporation (ARCIC)

Any benefit under this policy whether directly or indirectly arising from:

• Pregnancy, childbirth, and abortion

• Treatment of infertility or obesity

• Contraception of any kind

• Dental treatment including periodontal work

• Elective cosmetic surgery and associated treatments

• Conditions arising from misuse of alcohol or drugs

• Suicide, intentional self-injury or self-induced illness

• Sterilisation within two years of commencement date and then only when it is necessary to protect the health of the insured person

• Congenital conditions

• Certifiable mental disease, psychiatric treatment and senile illness

• Treatment of AIDS or HIV related illness

• Costs incurred, injuries received or illness contracted outside of New Zealand

• Photorefractive keratectomy and radial keratectomy (correction of short sight) and any equivalent procedure to correct long sight

(This is not a comprehensive list of exclusions. Other exclusions are set out in the Premier Health Care Policy Document, which may be obtained from any Bank of New Zealand branch.)
