The Calan group is about to move onto its second fund following the successful listing last week of its Healthcare Properties Trust.

The property trust listed on the Stock Exchange early last week and traded at a slight premium. Before listing units had been trading at $1.11 each on the secondary market and the price went as high as $1.19 during the week.

Calan's second fund, Calan Healthcare Worldwide Growth Trust, invests in international healthcare stocks.

United Kingdom-based specialist fund manager Framlington has been contracted to manage Northern Hemisphere investments in the new vehicle. Framlington health fund manager Anthony Milford has a good track record in this area, with the Health Fund returning 470 per cent over the past 10 years.

More details on this new fund will be available later.

Equitable offering more than just mortgages

Niche fund manager Equitable is about to expand the range of products it offers in the mortgage market.

The company recently established a highly competitive and flexible mortgage service, Flexiloan, which is distributed through financial planners.

It is looking to expand that service by offering chequebooks, credit cards and facilities for direct credits and debits.

The company funds its mortgages through a facility arranged with ABN Ambro in Australia.

National Bank Investment Race Reminder
Planners in the National Bank Investment Race have until Wednesday to lodge their final decision form. This can be done online at decision form.

The race for the top has become tight with just $542 separating the top for placed advisers. (Each contestant has been given a nominal $100,000 to invest in National Bank funds over six months from March to September. The three contestants with the top returns win trips to the FPA conference in Sydney).

Currently the portfolio of first-placed Michael Lawrence of PriceWaterhouseCoopers is valued at $116,911.48.

Planners not in the running for the overall prize need to submit a decision form this month to be in the draw to win the monthly "Top Spot" prize. The 'Top Spot' of a case of wine from the National Bank Visa wine club is given to the contestant who records the highest positive increase in a portfolio for the month.
