The insurance market may be crowded already, but that hasn't deterred Lumley Insurance from expanding its services in New Zealand.

Lumley, which currently offers only fire and general insurance, is about to set up a life insurance operation in this country.

The new business is being headed by former Cigna regional sales manager Jon Lloyd.

Lloyd says the company will be offering life insurance products including trauma, TPD and income protection.

He says the company's focus will be on developing a business in partnership with brokers.

"Nobody here is working in a true partnership arrangement with brokers," he says.

Lumley is developing its products in consultation with the brokers, and it will be offering an agency agreement which offers brokers 100 per cent vesting in all commissions, including renewals.

"We are totally focussed on helping brokers build a true financial asset in their business," he says.

Lumley's policies will have competitive features and policy wording, Lloyd says.
