This week is ‘Make A Will Week’ - a wake-up call for people to get their affairs in order and make a Will or update an existing one.

Each year about 1000 of the 26,000 New Zealanders who die do so without having made a Will.

"Dying without a Will means decisions about the assets you leave on your death will be made by someone else and may not be what you wanted," Public Trust chief executive Tim Sole says.

People should look at having their Will updated whenever their circumstances change. This will ensure it reflects their current situation.

"Changing lifestyles or changes like the recent Property Relationships Act, can make an existing Will out of date," Sole says. ‘‘Peoples circumstances change. They get married, buy a house, and have children and grandchildren. Others get divorced or separated and all these changes need to be taken into account."

‘Make A Will Week’ is being promoted by the Law Society. For more about Wills see the Trust and Estate Planning section here

Sagitta forms another alliance

Sagitta, formerly Rothschild Australia Asset Management, has formed an alliance with one of the US's top property managers, Boston-based AEW Capital Management, LP.

AEW is one of the world’s largest investors of real estate capital and managers of real estate portfolios, with approximately A$12.2 billion net assets under management.

Sagitta will use AEW's extensive and highly successful investment skills to manage Sagitta clients' exposure to global property securities markets.

Together, AEW and Sagitta intend to look at opportunities in less developed global property securities markets as they mature.

"Sagitta's investment alliance strategy is based on the premise that if we do not have the appropriate resources in-house, we will seek strategic alliances with partners considered the best in their field," chief executive Peter Martin says.
