Westpac has announced that Brendan O’Donovan has been appointed as chief economist, replacing Adrian Orr.
O’Donovan has recently returned to New Zealand after nearly two years of travelling extensively overseas. Before leaving New Zealand mid 2001, he was the National Bank’s chief economist.
”Working for New Zealand’s largest bank will certainly be a challenge but I am looking forward to it. I believe the New Zealand economy is in good shape but is undoubtedly entering a more challenging phase. The onus will be on the Government to ensure that policies pass the common sense test and current spending is assessed for effectiveness and value for money.” says O’Donovan.
