The three new conditions added to AMP’s Vital Plus Crisis cover are meningitis, chronic liver disease and encephalitis. Key definitions around conditions have also been expanded and clarified under both Vital Plus Crisis and Vital Crisis products.

AMP general manager risk markets, John McMurdo, says meningitis was added to the conditions covered because of its direct relevance to New Zealanders and the dramatic effect it can have on both sufferers and their families.

"Trauma cover plays an important part in the personal risk protection market and it is important the definitions relate to the actual circumstances customers may find themselves in," he says.

"Definitions have been expanded and clarified so they are based on the actual needs of customers and advisers both now and into the future. This is a point of difference in a market often characterised by cosmetic changes to definition wording designed to create temporary marketing advantage," McMurdo says.

"These changes have been made after taking a practical view of customers needs and reflect the actual way they would be diagnosed and treated. The changes ensure, as much as possible, we do not disadvantage customers by having strict claim criteria which fails to acknowledge varied methods of diagnosis or the impact of a crisis condition on customers’ lives.
