The Conferenz SuperFunds Summit is approaching. Mark the dates in your diary now! The Summit is intended to update you with the latest in savings and retirement funds issues. If you are a part of the savings industry, a scheme trustee or administrator or a fund manager, this event is unmissable!

Demographic forecasts predict that over the next fifty years the proportion of people in New Zealand over the age of 65 will more than double, from 12 percent in 1999 to 26 percent in 2050.

'The cost of superannuation is predicted to increase from its current level of 4% of GDP to over 8% of GDP by 2050. In today’s terms, that’s an extra five billion dollars each year.’

Day 1: Savings and Superannuation
Day 1 will cover updates on policy issues and the savings industry, covering topics such as an update on the December 2003 Periodic Report Group, international policy comparisons and assessing the savings position for employees and employers. The political viewpoints on key policies will be debated by the Associate Minister for Finance, Hon. David Cunliffe, and John Key, Deputy Finance Spokesperson for the National Party. New Zealand Treasury will deliver some findings from the recent Household Savings Survey, debate the issue of retirement savings in New Zealand now and lead into a discussion on the current needs of employees and employers with respect to savings.

Day 2: Investment and Superfunds
Day 2 will focus on some key investment issues for super schemes and their managers and administrators, such as emerging asset classes for super funds, a tax update for SuperFunds and economic overviews. The role of alternative asset classes such as hedge funds, private equity, infrastructure and global property will be hotly debated, and will assess the relevance of these classes for SuperFunds. This timely course is designed to update you with the latest policies and investment theory with regard to the savings and SuperFunds industry. Make sure you attend to network with your peers, make essential contacts and be informed in order to enhance your organisation’s resources.
