Standard & Poor's has appointed Mark Hoven as head of its fund services business in Australia and New Zealand.

Hoven joined Standard & Poor's in 2001 as head of market development, and recently led efforts to expand its research services into the financial intermediary market. Hoven has also been responsible for the development of Standard & Poor's subscription product for research professionals, ResearchChoice.com, and securing the first leg of a multi-channel distribution strategy through an arrangement with planning software provider Xplan.

In his new role Hoven will head up the local analytical team currently responsible for rating managed funds, cash and bond funds, mortgage trusts, and administration platforms. These assessments will be done in conjunction with Standard & Poor's global fund team. Hoven will continue to be responsible for the rollout of Standard & Poor's broader retail-research offering to dealer groups and independent financial planners, which also includes coverage of hybrid securities, structured credit products, and the S&P/ASX indices.

Prior to joining Standard & Poor's, Hoven worked in equities research with two global investment banks, and corporate and engineering roles with Esso Australia. He is a graduate of the University of Melbourne, and holds a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment from the Securities Institute of Australia.

Hoven will take over the role from David Collins, who has been appointed chief compliance officer, Asia-Pacific. In this role Collins will be responsible for establishing and overseeing compliance practices for the various Standard & Poor's businesses operating in the Asia-Pacific region.
