This year the CFP of the Year Award was awarded jointly to Phillip King and Alison Renfrew.

King’s firm Ellerie Cornwall is based in Tauranga and Renfrew’s firm in Wellington is Creating Wealth.

Both winners are previous finalists in the awards.

The judges noted the high quality of the plans presented by the finalists. They also said it was good to see that best practice procedures were being introduced to their businesses and that they appeared to be well-prepared should any form of regulation be imposed on the financial planning profession.

The winner of the Young Financial Planner of the Year Award was Philip Holland of Harmer Parr in Tauranga.

He is a Certified Financial Planner and by the end of the year will also have a CLU designation.

“He demonstrated through his interview that he had an excellent understanding of industry issues and is a great role model for young financial planners,” the judges said.

The runner up in the Young Financial Planner of the Year Awards was Rosemary Bevins of Palmerston North-based chartered accountancy firm Naylor Lawerence.

The quality of her presentations and interview demonstrated her commitment to professionalism.

The Awards were held at a black tie function in St Matthews in the City in Auckland.

The awards are sponsored by AXA, AMP, ING, MFS Pacific and Tower.
