Mortgage Express, the joint venture between Perpetual Trust and the Harcourts real estate agency chain, has appointed its first business development manager.

The appointee is Sarah Benns, who comes to her new role after 16 years at Westpac, most recently as the Manurewa branch manager.

However, mortgage brokers will probably know her better as the founder of Westpac’s broker channel with Philip Stark and where she spend three-and-a-half years.

In her new role she is charged with helping to introduce a new brand, new loan qualifying software, the company’s training program and building its market profile.

Mortgage Express currently has 26 mortgage brokers contracted to it. "We’re moving Mortgage Express into a new era and looking to grow the business," Benns says.

She says leaving her Westpac career wasn’t a hard decision after Mortgage Express head Andrew L’Almont approached her.

"I was always passionate about the broker industry," she says, adding that she’s looking forward to guiding Mortgage Express in achieving the high standards the industry ought to be striving for.
