TOWER has appointed Steve Boomert as its chief executive for the Health and Life operation in New Zealand. He will be based in Auckland.

TOWER Group ceo Jim Minto, said the appointment completed the New Zealand senior management team. He joins Pieter Lindhout as ceo General Insurance and direct, and Tony Hildyard, ceo Investments.

Boomert has more than 10 years experience in the health and financial services sectors and more than 20 years experience in delivering strategic solutions in marketing, distribution, policy and planning.

"While having spent much of his working life in Australia, both Steve and his wife are New Zealand born and they are excited at the prospect of returning," Minto says.

Minto said the three-person CEO structure in New Zealand would be focussed on building the competitive positions of each of their areas of responsibility and driving TOWER into its next phase of growth.

Boomert joins TOWER from Medibank Private, Melbourne, where he has been group manager, strategy and corporate development. Prior to joining Medibank Private in 2000, he was with the Colonial Group for a number of years.
