According to media reports the woman was told by a Tauranga real estate agent that the owners of the rental property did not want Maori tenants.
REINZ intended to investigate the matter and would invite the woman to formally lay a complaint with the institute, Mr Cleland said.
“If the reports are correct then the actions of the agent are completely unacceptable and will be subject to disciplinary actions.
“This type of behaviour goes against the institute’s code of conduct which all members are bound by and simply does not meet the expectations of our members.
“We rely on our members to actively work against racist policies by rental property owners and would encourage any member to refuse to accept a commission from a property owner who specified racist requirements in relation to tenants.
