IRD to need 400 staff for KiwiSaver

The Inland Revenue Department is set to to hire up to 400 staff to administer KiwiSaver.

IRD will be the central hub for KiwiSaver, with many roles including handling deductions and directing them to the appropriate fund managers.

National, which is the only party in Parliament opposing KiwiSaver has predictably labelled this a "a massive boost to the bureaucracy."

"This hiring will increase IRD's staff numbers by around 8%. IRD already has 5,358 full-time equivalent staff on its books,” National’s associate finance spokesman Craig Foss says.

He goes onto say that "IRD's plan to hire these processing staff also shows how complex the Government anticipates KiwiSaver will be to administer."
