Insurer AIG Life has appointed Andries van Graan to the role of director of national sales, with responsibility for the national sales team and its sales objectives and adviser relationships.

van Graan will focus on maximizing the strength of the sales team, ensuring the team meets its objectives in building and strengthening relationships with independent financial advisers.

van Graan was promoted from the role of Senior Regional Manager. He joined AIG Life in early 2007 after immigrating from South Africa, where he spent 15 years with the large financial services group Liberty Life, working in business development and sales management before serving as divisional manager.

van Graan said his role will include monthly national travel to meet advisers and garner feedback on the industry.

"We'll discuss the latest events and see where AIG Life can help. We want to earn business from advisers through assisting them with issues such as compliance, and making sure that we're leading that process to help them build their businesses and achieve their business goals."
