Vidler changes tack at Fidelity Life

Fidelity Life has appointed Tony Vidler as professional development manager to help the company prepare to meet incoming legislation for financial advisers.

Vidler is currently the senior business development manager at Fidelity Life's Christchurch office and is a certified financial planner, chartered life underwriter and a board member of the Institute of Financial Advisers (IFA).

Fidelity Life is also looking to appoint a new business development manager for the South Island.

Chief executive Milton Jennings says the role of professional development manager has been established to help provide advisers with training, certification and tools to comply with the new adviser legislation, expected in late 2010. This will require all intermediaries to be licensed in order to sell life insurance or investment products.

"It's a massive overhaul and the whole industry faces an enormous amount of work. All companies, including Fidelity Life, have to make a lot of far-reaching decisions very quickly and on limited information.

"We are fortunate to have someone of Tony's calibre who has worked as an adviser, as well as in a corporate setting. This experience will give Fidelity Life a practical approach to dealing with the issues around adviser legislation."

Vidler is confident New Zealand investors will benefit from the new laws.

"The changes will provide greater confidence in the financial services sector, raising the standard of advisors and product manufacturers alike and generally provide a far more robust regulatory environment."

The appointment will be effective from August 17.
