Criminal charges have been laid against a forex trader accused of misappropriating more than $837,000 and overstating investors’ positions by about $4 million. And the Serious Fraud Office says the case is another in a string of investment adviser and broker cases coming to its attention.

Rene Alan Chalmers, 42, had been investigated by the SFO and is now facing 15 charges of theft by a person in a special relationship, dishonestly taking or using a document and false statement by a promoter.

The charges relate to his activities trading foreign exchange on behalf of clients, and to three property purchases.
