Boomert has been appointed chief executive of ProCare, New Zealand’s largest PHO (primary health organisation). He has more than two decades of experience in health and life insurance, healthcare and IT in the US, UK, Australia and New Zealand, including five years as chief executive of Tower Health & Life Insurance which was recently sold to Australian company nib.
During his time at Tower Health and Life he drove a major turnaround of the company through rebuilding its service platform, revitalising its products and creating a performance culture, resulting in a significant improvement in customer satisfaction and market share growth. He has spent the last two years as a management consultant leveraging his skills in strategy and change management.
“I feel health care is the number one economic issue for developed countries,” Boomert says, “and it is my belief this is best managed from the front end of the health system. ProCare has the scale, credibility and committed membership to deliver this well.”
Boomert is a former President of the NZ Health Funds Association and has held board positions with the Australian Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, NZ Investment Saving and Insurance Association, and the Insurance and Saving Ombudsman. He is a member of the NZ Institute of Directors. He is also a former general manager of Medibank, Australia’s largest private health insurer and provider of telehealth services. He take up his role on February 18.
