Adviser on trial

Nelson financial adviser Tony Mount is on trial this week, alleged to have skimmed thousands of dollars from his clients' investments.

Mount had faced almost 200 charges but the case will only focus on 18 clients. He now faces 77 charges including 18 of theft by failing to account and 49 of theft by a person in a special relationship.

It is alleged he did not invest all the money he was given by clients, and told them assets cost more than they did.

Discrepancies reportedly range from $100 to $10,000.

The case, in the High Court, is expected to take three weeks.
