Asteron Life has appointed Nadine Tereora its new managing director, replacing David Carter who will be leaving to take on an
executive role at Suncorp Bank in Brisbane.

Carter said that Tereora’s internal promotion reflects the strength of Asteron Life’s existing leadership team. “We have a very strong executive bench. Together, we have achieved some fantastic results in the last couple of years, working alongside advisers to develop a sustainable future that respects the importance of the customer in everything we do. We’re continuing to embed this strategy, and I’m thrilled that one of our leaders who has played a key role in shaping the
Asteron Life of today will lead the team going forward. Continuity is such an important consideration if we’re to embed our focus.” Carter added, “It was always the strategic intention that I would step away from the business here in New Zealand at some point, and we’ve built our current executive team to enable that. In my time here I’ve enjoyed tremendous support from the adviser community and I leave feeling very humbled at having had the opportunity to take custody of such a great business.”

Tereora is a well-known name in New Zealand’s life insurance industry, currently holding the position of Executive Manager Claims, Underwriting and Product at Asteron Life. Prior to this, she was Chief Operating Officer at AIA, and has also held senior roles at Sovereign and PrefSure Life in Sydney.

"Nadine has an impressive background in strategic leadership and she’s a passionate advocate for advisers and the role of life insurance in local communities. She is ideally placed to lead our organisation and it speaks volumes to the experience of the team here in New Zealand that we’ve been able to make such a strong appointment internally.

Tereora will take up her new role on 3 March 2014. Carter will remain with Suncorp Life New Zealand until the end of March.
