NZX has appointed Guy Elliffe (pictured) and John Williams as independent directors of NZX's Exchange Traded Funds business Smartshares.

Elliffe is currently corporate governance manager at the Accident Compensation Corporation. Before that he was Head of Equities at AMP Capital Investors, and has held a range of senior investment roles in New Zealand and the US.

Smartshares is committed to developing a vibrant ETFs market that provides New Zealand investors with a range of diverse, low-cost and easily accessible investment options. Last week NZX announced that Smartshares will launch an additional four ETFs (fixed interest and property) on November 12, bringing the total suite of ETFs offered to 23, covering all major asset classes.

The new ETFs will give investors the opportunity to invest in New Zealand bonds and cash, global bonds and New Zealand listed property businesses.

Elliffe and Williams join NZX chief executive Tim Bennett and chief financial officer Bevan Miller on the Smartshres board. NZX head of compliance Kristin Brandon has resigned from the board.
