The award is not automatically handed out each year but is designed to recognise an individual who has made an outstanding contribution over an extended period.

IFA chief executive Fred Dodds said: “This award is not restricted to IFA members, and we consider candidates from across the industry. In assessing who is a standout figure for recognition for their contribution to the financial services industry we have to weigh up who has – in our opinion –contributed most positively, proactively and professionally for more than a decade to develop the financial services sector.”

Candidates are judged on their personal attributes, contribution to financial services, contribution to society, innovation and entrepreneurship and leadership.

“This is an incredibly broad set of assessment criteria, and relatively few people within the entire financial services industry would merit consideration. However, those who do merit consideration are the very best of the best, and have repeatedly demonstrated their character and commitment to excellence,” Dodds said.

He said Jennings had made an enormous contribution over a long period during his time at Fidelity Life.

IFA members who had achieved CFP status were also recognized at the event: Alan Borthwick, Maree Gordon, Trish Iversen, Ray Li and Matthew Watt.

IFA chair awards were given to Michael Youngman, Stuart Auld and Mike Green. Dodds said those awards were to honour volunteers who dedicated their time, energy and intellect for the common good over a prolonged period of time. “These three recipients have all contributed to the successful and efficient running of their respective branches.”

Dodds said the combined conference had gone very well. Advisers had enjoyed roboadvice and peer-to-peer content in particular, he said.
