It has launched a new campaign for World Investor Week, to help New Zealanders become more confident investors by addressing some of the uncertainties around investing.

World Investor Week is run by financial markets regulators around the world to encourage people to get involved in investing.

The FMA campaign involves a new animation featuring a swimming pool to show some of the common fears around investing. It’s designed to help New Zealanders gain the confidence to dip their toes in the water.

The FMA wants people to think about how they can meet their long-term goals, including accessing financial advice.

It is working with the CFFC, Financial Advice NZ and NZX to support World Investor Week.

One of the case studies featured is someone who wants to buy his business partner out and is saving and investing to reach that goal. He turns to an adviser for help.

An FMA spokesman said the week was a chance to talk about the benefits of investing.

“The FMA has deliberately referenced advisers in this content because they have a role to play in supporting investors to become more confident. Financial Advice New Zealand are working with us on this campaign. One of the characters in the campaign seeks investment advice through a financial adviser, and we link to the section of our website which helps people find an adviser,” he said.

“We would encourage all advisers to get involved in World Investor Week by speaking to clients, sharing the content and encouraging new and existing investors to think about their confidence and attitude to risk.”
