Timaru real estate market in great shape

South Canterbury's economic health has many people investing in property around the region, with homes being snapped up in rural centres and some houses sold almost the moment they are listed.

Twizel was also experiencing a resurgence, with one agent selling 50 properties there last year. Mr Burdett said prices of holiday homes in Twizel had risen from $50,000 to between $60,000-$70,000. Queenstown and Wanaka prices had forced may buyers out of the market and the Mackenzie district was a cheaper option.

Mr Burdett said investors were looking to buy rental property, especially in Waimate where homes were cheaper and offered a good return.
