Cost of house building set to rocket in the Far North

Development Contribution charges proposed by the Far North District Council, for enforcement in July, will see the cost of building a home ($60,000 or more), rise by between $5,000 and $12,000.

Members of the building industry are concerned about the wide ranging impact of the new charges on families hoping to achieve low or middle cost housing...

He said total fees and charges to build new homes in other council districts were between $1000 and $3000, depending on the size of the home.
