Growing taste for city living

INNER-CITY living in central New Plymouth is booming, with increasing numbers of professionals leaving the suburbs for central apartments.

While the exact number of people living in central city apartments is difficult to determine, anecdotal evidence shows numbers are steadily increasing.

Willie and Rosalie Still, who built their penthouse on top of the King's Building in the mid-1990s, say they have noticed a big jump in inner-city neighbours in the last few years.

"I think it's a trend, probably worldwide, but certainly in New Zealand it's taken off," Mr Still said.
