Housing scheme 'anti-competitive'

The Government's plan to help out low-income first-home buyers with loans from state-owned Kiwibank is anti-competitive, according to mortgage brokers.

But the Mortgage Brokers Association says it will not be rushing to lodge a complaint against the bank with the Commerce Commission over the Kiwibank scheme.

Under the Kiwibank "in-reach" scheme, couples earning up to $100,000 a year can qualify for loans without a deposit.
