Lack of houses hikes Auckland prices

Sales in the Auckland housing market are slowing because there aren't enough properties so Auckland prices look set to go higher

Commenting on September figures from Auckland real estate firm Barfood and Thompson, BNZ chief economist Tony Alexander told Telstra Business News that sales growth in Auckland is slowing, not because buyers are pulling back but because there aren't enough houses.

This "vast shortage" of listings will see prices increase further he said.

In September the average price of property sold by Barfoot and Thompson passed the $400,000 mark for the first time and turnover for that month was a record.
