The commissioner proposes to limit credit checks to credit providers and some, but not all, landlords. The criteria for inclusion are not specified. Industry players say if limits are imposed, the risk of renting their homes to errant tenants will increase.
Hundreds of landlords are queuing up for help under a two-month-old government scheme to track down tenants who have slipped out in the night,
some owing thousands of dollars in unpaid rent.
