Dunedin rental market boom forces up prices

A booming Dunedin property market is forcing up the cost of rental homes leaving families struggling to find houses they can afford.

Dunedin rents have reportedly risen 15% to 20% in the past year, with hikes as great as 80% in areas such as St Kilda and the Otago Peninsula.

While a year ago, three-bedroom homes were being rented out for about $180 a week, accommodation seekers would now be hard pressed to find one for less than $220.
