Builders forgo contracts for lack of staff

Construction companies are forgoing hundreds of millions of dollars in contracts because they cannot find skilled tradespeople to do the work.

Mainzeal and Australian-owned Multiplex, two of New Zealand's biggest construction firms, said yesterday they had decided not to bid for as much as $500 million of work.

Fletcher Building also said it had little capacity to take on new contracts, but declined to say how much it had given up
