There is a three-month wait for clay bricks in Auckland City as manufacturers and importers struggle to meet demand.

Builders are laying bricks behind plaster to meet strict new regulations for construction compliance, enforced after the leaky homes epidemic.

And more people are choosing to build with the durable material.
