Bypass clears its final obstacle

The long-delayed inner-city bypass through the heart of Wellington has cleared its final legal hurdle.

The High Court has tossed out a last-gasp planning challenge by lobby group Campaign for a Better City to try to preserve the historic inner-city Te Aro precinct.

The $30 million roading project to speed up traffic through the city – from the end of the motorway to the Mt Victoria tunnel – now just needs a final tick from roading authority Transit New Zealand, due next week, and funding approval from Transfund.
