Developers get Birdwood Bush in Parnell

Developers have won the fight for a patch of native bush in Parnell.

The Auckland City Council has granted non-notified consent for 27 townhouses to be built at 21 Birdwood Cres.

Richard Simpson, a key figure in the campaign to stop the development, says the decision will have a devastating impact on the area.

Mr Simpson says it will destroy 14 native trees, bury the historic Waipapa Stream and prevent public access to the old Parnell tunnel.
