House prices tipped to increase 10pc

House prices are set to rise 10 to 15 per cent in Auckland this year because of low interest rates, more people - including migrants - and a shortage of quality homes.

The figure, released by Quotable Value yesterday, is contained in the agency's house price index and based on sales to date.
Auckland suburbs once considered undesirable, such as Onehunga and Avondale, are taking off, particularly among young families who can no longer afford to live closer to the city.
