Aussie sceptic speaks about scams

Australian sceptic Richard Lead says there is a good reason why scam artists find it so easy to separate people from their money.

"We all want to believe what we hear. If it doesn't sound right our brain corrects the mistake."

As an international tax consultant in Sydney for 25 years, Mr Lead has dealt with all the scams, from Nigerian Internet and fax scams to property investment and international share markets.

And, as he told the New Zealand Sceptics Conference in Wellington at the weekend, almost anyone – not just the naive and gullible – can be taken in.
