A Waikato finance broker is defending the way a Taranaki couple's home was refinanced, resulting in them selling the property without realising it.

Cambridge lawyer William Raymond (Ray) Harris faces 40 charges before the New Zealand Law Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal in Hamilton, accused of negligence or incompetence which reflected on his fitness to practise as a barrister and solicitor, and bringing the profession into disrepute.
