Tasman district councillor Paul Sangster has bought a strategic piece of land in Takaka that the Golden Bay Community Board asked the council to investigate buying.

Tasman Mayor John Hurley told the board's March meeting that the 1.4ha property in Reilly St was "strategic", and the council could dispose of some assets so it could buy it.
However, Cr Sangster this week confirmed he had bought the land, which is opposite a site being considered by the council for a new library.
