Poverty action group slams more state housing plan in Auckland

A Housing New Zealand plan to buy, build or lease 567 homes in north-west Auckland over the next three years won't solve the area's accomodation shortages, members of the Child Poverty Action Group say.

Minister of Housing Steve Maharey says the Government has allocated $128.9 million over the next three years to buy new homes in the Auckland region.

The money will allow Housing New Zealand to build or lease 460 homes in north-west Auckland.

It will also be used to buy 107 new homes.

But Child Poverty Action Group housing spokesman Alan Johnson isn't impressed.
